UK-(18-5-2004) Over the weekend an excellent fleet of Solings competed for the North West Soling Championship on the River Wyre, the championship is part of the HARKEN Soling Series in UK.

Hosted by Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club had as Race Officer Peter Jackson who with his team provided windward / leeward courses producing tight racing and mixed results throughout the fleet in two opposite wind conditions.

Overnight leader Derek Priestley (GBR 164) was sitting comfortable after two firsts from first day until light airs came on the second day and let Bryan Bottomley's team in Cockatoo 2 (GBR143) capitalise on consistent results and two victories winning this first part of the Harken series.

Six races were started and only Hamish Loudon (GBR 161), Ken Bailey (GBR 156), Bryan and Derek were the only who manage to win some races but Gary Richardson (GBR 155) with his regularity jump into the podium finishing second at the championship and Derek after his first day could use one of his victories to untie the score over Ben and finish third.
